CAT Syllabus 2017 – Exam Structure

The preparation of CAT is one of the most crucial steps where the candidates must wisely plan and execute. Securing a good score and percentile will definitely land the candidates in one of the IIMs or other top-rated B-Schools of India. The entrance test will be held in a computer-based mode and there will be a total of 100 questions. The questions will be divided into 3 sections and candidates will be allotted 180 minutes to complete the test. It is important for the candidates to know the CAT exam pattern so that they understand the structure of the question booklet.

Some of the important points regarding the structure of the CAT 2017 question booklet are –

  • There MCQs will be divided into 3 sections, which are Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Verbal & Reading Comprehension (VARC).
  • A total of 100 MCQs (QA – 34, DILR – 32 and VARC – 34)will be there in the question booklet.
  • The candidates will be given only 1 hour for each section i.e. 3 hours in total to complete the test.
  • An onscreen calculator will be provided for calculations.
  • A virtual keyboard will be provided to attempt the non-MCQs.
  • 3 marks will be added for each correct answers while 1 mark will be deducted for wrong answers. However, there is no negative marking for the non-MCQs.
