IIM Sambalpur Admission Criteria 2016 -18 is the process of selection of candidates for admission in MBA postgraduate program for session 2016-18 at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur, Orissa. Since the institute doesn’t conduct any entrance examination of its own, admission will be offered on the basis of performance in CAT (Common Aptitude Test) 2015 Result which has already been declared. The institute will release list of candidates shortlisted for the next round of admission process from time to time. Mentor institute of IIM Sambalpur is IIM Indore. Detailed IIM Sambalpur Admission Criteria 2016 -18

Selection of the candidates will be done as per their performance in CAT 2015, PAP (Past Academic Performance), and Work Experience (WE). Higher the collective score better is the chance of final allotment. There are many stages of selection process which have been discussed below in the article.

Stage I – Shortlisting of Candidates on CAT Score

All the candidates who apply for admission in IIM Sambalpur will be screened for the next round of admission process on the basis of their score in CAT compared against a selection parameter known as cutoff. As per the IIM Sambalpur Selection Criteria 2016 -18, those who are able to score marks more than or equal to the cutoff will be selected and rest will be rejected. Cutoff will be applied on sectional as well as aggregate score basis. The following table represents cutoff applied for admission session 2015-17.

Stage II – Final Selection Criterion

Those who meet the cutoff criteria as mentioned in the above table will get a confirmation email from IIM Sambalpur as a part of IIM Sambalpur Admission Criteria 2016 -18. These candidates have to confirm their willingness to take admission in the institute by replying to the email within the stipulated time period. They must express and reconfirm their desire to pursue further for admission to PGP in management at the institute. The next stage is application of other screening factors for further shortlisting. The following factors will be considered now by the institute:

  • CAT 2015 Performance
  • Past Academic Performance (PAP) Score
  • Work Experience (WE) Score
  1. Assessment of CAT 2015 Performance

Candidate’s score in CAT 2015 will be considered (percentile achieved in section 1 (QA and DI) and section 2 (VA and LR)). Percentile in these two sections of CAT 2015 will comprise of 55% of the final score. Breakdown of 55% is as follows – 30% for VAP and 25% for QAP where-

  • VAP implies VA percentile of the candidate/ Maximum VA percentile
  • QAP implies QA percentile of the candidate/ Maximum QA percentile.
  1. Assessment of Past Academic Performance (PAP) Score

Candidate’s performance in class X, class XII, and UG degree program will also be considered in IIM Sambalpur Admission Criteria 2016 and it is known as PAP Score. The table and formula given below was used in previous year to calculate scores A, B, and C.

  • For class X and class XII: candidates will be assigned rating scores ‘A’ and ‘B’ according to the marks obtained by them in class X and class XII respectively.
  • For UG degree program: candidates will be assigned rating score ‘C’ according to the percentage of marks received in the bachelor’s degree.

Past Academic Performance (PAP) Score will be calculated using the following formula: PAP = (0.30*A+0.35*B+0.35*C)/10.

  1. Assessment of Work Experience Score

According to IIM Sambalpur Admission Criteria 2016 -18, a candidate’s work experience score will be calculated on the basis of number of months of work experience. The following figures will be used to assign marks for number of months of service. Here “w” refers to the number of months completed as work experience.

  • WE = 0 for w <= 6
  • WE = 0 for w > 48
  • WE = w/24 for 6 < w <= 24
  • WE = 1 – ((w-24)/24) for 24 < w <= 48

Stage III – Final Selection

Final selection of the candidates will be as per the ranks calculated for each category (General/SC/ST/NC-OBC/PWD). The ranks will be allotted in accordance to the Final Scores (FS). Final Score of the candidate, who meets the CAT 2015 Cutoff, will be calculated as per the following formula: FS = 0.55* (CAT 2015 TP score) + 0.30 * (PAP Score) + 0.15 * (WE Score).
