AIIMS MBBS 2017 Normalization Procedure
The entrance examination for AIIMS MBBS 2017 will take place in two shifts (morning and afternoon). Due to this reason, a normalization procedure will be used to determine the eligibility. The percentile score corresponding to the minimum cutoff will be used to determine the eligibility. In case the percentiles for the two shifts are not equal, then the lower of the two percentiles will be the eligibility cutoff for that category for all candidates of both shifts. The Normalization procedure will be done by experts based on past AIIMS MBBS examinations and will be based on Percentiles.
The obtained marks of the candidates are transformed into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for both shifts. The Percentile score will indicate the percentage of candidates that have scored equal to or below that particular Percentile in that examination. Therefore, the topper of each group will get the same percentile of 100 which is desired. The Percentile score is the normalized score for this examination. The Score of both groups is normalized to percentiles. For example/: the highest score of each group would be normalized to the percentile of 100 whereas the lowest score would have a percentile depending on the total number of candidates who have taken the examination.
The percentile for each student will be derived using the following formula. This method is used for all 5 dimensions (Total Percentile, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and General Knowledge).
Biology Percentile: 100 x No of candidates from the group with Biology
No. of candidates in the group/shift
To derive an overall merit list, the percentile scores for the total marks of both shifts would be merged and arranged.
AIIMS MBBS 2017 Inter Se Merit
When two or more candidates obtain same scores (Total Percentile) then their inter se merit is determined. In order to decide the higher rank between the candidates, the following steps are followed:
- First, candidates who have ranked higher in Biology in the entrance examination will be given preference.
- If there is still a tie, the candidates who have scored higher in Chemistry will be given preference.
- Next, candidates who have scored higher in Physics will be ranked higher
- At last, if there is still a tie; candidates who are senior in age will be ranked higher than the candidates who are junior in age.
