Around 12 lakh medical aspirants who appeared for NEET 2017 will have to wait a little longer for the result of the exam. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has told the Gujarat HC that the NEET 2017 result cannot be declared on June 8. The Board said that it’s not possible to declare the result as Madras HC’s order is still in place. It also said that at least 15 days will be needed to declare the result once the stay order is lifted by the Court. It must be noted that the Madras HC had restrained the CBSE from declaring NEET Result on May 24. Click here for more details.
NEET Exam Controversy
After the NEET exam was held on May 7, many students complained that the questions asked in the vernacular language question papers were different and tougher that the questions asked in English/ Hindi language paper. Some students and parents in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat filed a petition in the Madras HC and Gujarat HC respectively, seeking the cancellation of NEET 2017.
In the petition filed in the courts, the students said that by distributing different question papers, the CBSE had denied a ‘level playing field’ to the candidates. Consequently, Madras HC sought a clarification from the Union Health Secretary and granted an interim stay on the result of NEET exam till the passing of final orders (Read – Madras HC asks Union Health Secretary to clarify on NEET petition).
According to the latest updates, the CBSE has requested the Court to remove the stay and allow the results to be announced. The Board said that any more delay in the result declaration will cause unnecessary anxiety and can jeopardize the future of lakhs of medical aspirants across the country. However, as things stand now, the possibility of re-conduct of NEET exam cannot be ruled out.
