Yesterday, on January 9, 2017, IIM Bangalore announced the CAT 2016 result. Like every year, many candidates missed to hit the bulls eye but this year, there were 20 candidates who scored the perfect 100 percentile. A 22 year old boy, Nishant Chaudhary, didn’t get 100 percentile but proudly earned for himself the tag of being a CAT 2016 topper. He obtained 98.7 percentile and has topped from Meerut in CAT. It was his second attempt. He completed his schooling from Swami Vivekananda Public School in Madhi village. Thereafter, he went on to pursuing B.Tech from UP Textiles Technology Institute in Kanpur and completed the same in 2016. Nishant belongs to an impecunious family, his father, Parvindra Chaudhary is a small-time sugarcane farmer.
Nishant faced a lot of hurdles but his determination and will to pursue MBA from a good B-school kept him going always. In conversation with one of the leading dailies, he told, "I had expected 95 plus percentile but did not know that it would be so high. I am keeping my fingers crossed to get a call from IIMs and crack the personal interview so that I can fulfill my dream of pursuing MBA from one of the IIMs."
When asked how he prepared for the CAT this year, he told to one of the leading news dailies, "I had to travel 30km every day to reach my coaching institute in the city to prepare for CAT exams. A total journey of 60km every day was indeed difficult but even more difficult was studying for the exam. I had to quit my job as a safety engineer at a textile mill to give all my time for CAT preparations. Many a times there was no elctricity in the village and studying became almost impossible. But all's well that ends well."
The students struggling to make their career and especially those who pause themselves to think whether they should keep moving forward and carve their path or should just give up because of the hurdles coming their way should take inspiration from Nishant’s story. If he can do it so can you. Each day is a new beginning, wake up tomorrow with a new determination and work hard to get what you desire.
