IIM Lucknow, the conducting body of CAT 2017 exam, has released the CAT application form on August 9. With the release of the application form, the registration process for India’s most coveted management entrance exam has started. Candidates must fill and submit the CAT application form online on or before September 20, 2017. Along with the form, candidates are also required to submit the application fee as per their category. CAT 2017 notification was released on July 30 and the exam is scheduled to be conducted on November 26 in computer based mode.
Before applying for CAT 2017, candidates must have all the required documents and information that they will need while filling up the form. These include mark sheets (10th/ 12th/ Graduation/ Post Graduation), work experience, the list of IIM programmes to which candidates are applying etc.
Here are five important points that you should know before filling the application form for CAT 2017 –
1) Important dates
It is important for the candidates to keep a track of CAT important dates to ensure that they fill and submit the application form before the registration closes. CAT application process has started on August 9. The last date to submit the application form online is September 20. Check the table given below for more information on CAT 2017 important dates.

2) Documents to be uploaded
While filling CAT registration form, applicants need to upload the following documents –
Passport size photograph and signature
Scanned images of photograph and signature must be uploaded while filling CAT application form online. Check the table given below for image specifications –

Also, the photo must not be more than 6 months old and the background must be white.
NC-OBC/ SC/ ST/PwD Certificate
Candidates who are applying under NC-OBC/ SC/ ST/ PwD categories must upload the necessary documents. Applicants are required to download these certificates, fill the details and get them attested by the appropriate authorities.
Candidates must note that they need not upload academic certificates such as mark sheets while filling the CAT application form 2017.

3) Choose up to four test cities
CAT is a national level management entrance exam conducted in cities across the country. CAT 2017 will be held at various testing centres in 142 cities. While filling the application form, candidates can choose up to four cities in order of their preferences from the drop down menu. Candidates will be allotted one among the four preferred cities. Name and address of examination centre will be mentioned on CAT admit card, which will be available for download from October 18 onwards. CAT 2017 will be held in two sessions – morning and afternoon. Although, candidates can choose the city, they cannot select the exam session in which they want to appear.
4) Correction of details
It is the responsibility of candidates to ensure that details entered in CAT 2017 application form are correct and error-free. Except a few details, candidates will not be able to edit any information after payment of CAT application fee. Some of the details that candidates will be able to edit are – percentage of marks scored, work experience, programmes selected etc. However, there will be a limited time window during which these details can be edited. Also, candidates must note that any information entered in personal section of application form cannot be edited.
5) CAT Application Fee
Along with CAT application form, candidates must submit the application fee. Fee must be paid online through Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking. Check the table given below for more details on CAT application fee –

It must be noted that application fee has increased this year. Last year, application fee was Rs. 1700 (Rs. 850 for SC/ST/PWD candidates).
Candidates can log in multiple times complete the registration process as there is no compulsion to complete the application in a single session.
CAT is the most popular management entrance exam in India. Last year, around 2.30 lakh candidates applied for CAT 2017 exam. On the basis of CAT scores, candidates will be shortlisted for post graduate management programmes offered by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). Apart from the IIMs, there are more than 100 B-Schools that offer admission on the basis of CAT scores. CAT is a computer based exam.
