How to fill CAT Application Form 2017 – It is important for the candidates to know how to fill CAT application form. IIM Lucknow has released the CAT application form on August 09, and the last date to apply is September 20, 2017. The test will be held on November 26 in a computer-based mode for admission to the 20 IIMs and other top-rated B-Schools. The CAT 2017 application form is available in online mode only. Before filling CAT application form, first, candidates must register for the test. For CAT registration, candidates are required to enter their name, date of birth, email address and mobile number. On successful registration, the aspirants will receive a CAT user ID and password. With this provided login credentials, candidates will be able to access and fill in the application form. The CAT application form is divided into 5 sections, which are Personal, Academic, Work Experience details, Selection of programmes, and Payment of fees. How to Register for CAT 2017?
The table below provides the 4 simple CAT registration steps.
Steps to register for CAT 2017
|Step 1||Enter name as it appears in Class 10 or SSC certificate|
|Step 2||Select the date of birth from the calendar icon|
|Step 3||Provide a valid email ID. After successful registration, CAT 2017 user ID will be sent to the provided email ID (for the overseas candidates, the User ID and Password will be sent to their email address only)|
|Step 4||Enter a valid mobile number. Candidates will receive their Password via SMS on their registered mobile number|
Note: For the India based mobile numbers, applicants are not allowed to enter any special characters.
After entering the required details, candidates are required to retype the characters displayed in the captcha box. If candidates are having trouble reading the characters, click on the ‘Get a new image’ link to get a new set of letters. Before final submission of the registration form, candidates are required to read the Declaration section. If the candidates agree with the Declaration terms, then they can click on the ‘I Agree’ check box before clicking on the ‘Submit button’.
Only after successful registration, candidates (Indian national) will receive the CAT User ID and Password on their registered email address and mobile number, respectively.
How to fill CAT Application Form 2017?
After receiving the CAT User ID and password, the candidates are required to log in by using the given credentials. Only after successful login, candidates will be able to access the CAT application form and fill the same. Candidates can click on the link provided in the email or visit the official website of CAT to log in and start filling the application form. The application form of CAT can be divided into 5 sections, which are –
- Personal Details
- Work Experience
First, the applicants must read the instructions provided before they start filling the application form. Here, the candidates can ‘Logout’ and exit the application form and can come back later to complete the same. Also, they are required to click on ‘Save and Continue’ after completion of each section of the CAT application form to move to the next section. If all the required information and documents are not provided in a particular section, then the candidates won’t be able to move to the next one.
The last section of the CAT 2017 application form is Payment of the fee. On successful payment, candidates will receive a confirmation email regarding the same. The application process will conclude after payment of the fee.
After the payment, candidates won’t be able to make any changes in the application details. However, a correction window will be provided for a limited time period. Here, candidates were able to make changes in their Percentage of Marks scored, Work Experience, Programmes Selected, etc.
Note: In case, if candidates lose or forget their password, then they can visit the CAT official website iimcat.ac.in and then click on ‘Forgot Password’. On clicking, a new password will be sent to the candidate’s registered email address.
Detailed CAT 2017 Application Process
As mentioned earlier, the application form of CAT can be divided into 5 sections, which are Personal Details, Academics, Work Experience, Programmes and Payment. The detailed process to fill in CAT application process is provided below –
Personal Details: The candidate’s name and date of birth (as provided during the registration process) will be automatically provided in the application form. Here, candidates are required to –
- Enter Father’s/Husband’s/Guardian’s Name, Mother’s Name (as applicable) and Gender
- Select their Category and enter the required additional information
- Select their Nationality
- Enter Aadhaar card number (not mandatory)
- Candidates belonging to the Person with disability (PWD) are required to select the PWD category details
- Enter the postal address. Applicants may also enter an alternate email address and mobile number
- Upload the scanned image of candidate’s Passport Size photograph and Signature (Photograph dimensions: 30 mm X 45 mm; Signature dimensions: 80 mm X 35 mm). Also, the photograph must not be older than 6 months
- Upload the self-attested scanned image of the category certificate (if applied under NC-OBC/SC/ST/PWD category) as pdf document
After uploading all the Personal Details, click on ‘Save & Continue’ to proceed to the next section.
Academics: Here, the candidates are required to enter their academic details, which are –
- Class 10/SSC Marks and other details
- Class 12 Board Exam Details
- Post graduation Details
- Other Professional Degree Details
If any of the Board or University provides only letter grades, then the candidates must obtain a certificate from the respective authorities specifying the equivalent marks or the conversion procedure. The letter grades will then be converted into the percentage of marks based on the provided procedure.
If the University/Board does not provide any marks scheme for conversion of CGPA into equivalent marks, then the candidate’s CGPA will be divided by the maximum CGPA and the result will be multiplied with 100.
The formula for conversion of the CGPA into equivalent marks
(CGPA ÷ Maximum Possible CGPA) X 100
To calculate the percentage of marks obtained in Class 10/SSC and Class 12, the aggregate scores of all the subjects in the marks sheet will be considered. The percentage of marks in graduation or post graduation awarded by the University/Institute will be considered final. If the exam authority does not award the percentage of marks, then according to the marks obtained in all subjects, the percentage will be calculated.
After entering all the required details and uploading of the certificates, candidates can click on ‘Save & Continue’ to proceed to the next section.
Note: At the time of admission to the respective IIMs or other top-rated Institutes, candidates are required to produce all the uploaded documents in original form.
Work Experience: This section is to be filled only by the candidates with work experience (full time). Here, the applicants are required to enter their experience in number of months completed as on July 31, 2017. Candidates are required to select the Industry Types applicable to them and enter the work experience in months for each of them.
Click on ‘Save & Continue’ after entering the required details and proceed to the next section.
Programmes: In this particular section, candidates are required to select the number of Programme names and the Interview City from the provided list. Candidates can select up to 4 Test Cities according to their preference. On the last date of registration, the candidates will be allotted a city from their preferred list of cities. If the exam authorities are unable to allot any of the preferred city, then the candidates will be allotted a nearby city. The test will be held in two sessions, and candidates will be randomly allotted either of the two sessions. Complete address and details of the test centre and city along with the session timings will be mentioned on the CAT admit card.
Payment: After entering all the required details, candidates are required to pay the CAT application fee. The General Category candidates are required to pay Rs. 1800 only while the SC/ST/PWD candidates are required to pay Rs. 900 only. The application fee can be paid only via online mode. To pay the application fee, candidates can opt for the following mode of payment –
- Credit Card
- Internet Banking
- Debit Card
Note: Along with the application fee, candidates are required to pay an additional transaction charge.
Only after successful payment, candidates will receive a Payment Transaction Number and will be redirected to the official CAT website. Candidates will also receive an email confirming the successful payment of the CAT application fee and other details.
After the completion of the application process, the candidates can log in again to their CAT accounts with the provided credentials and check their application summary. They can also download the application summary and print it for their reference. Also, this year, the applicants will be able to track their CAT application status.
