IIM Admission Criteria 2017-19

IIM Admission Criteria – There are total 20 IIMs operational in the country. Being the elite group of the most prestigious B-Schools in the nation, the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) are the first preference for all the candidates aspiring for admissions into management courses. Indian Nationals are given admission into IIMs on the basis of Common Admission Test (CAT 2016) score, however the International candidates are given admission based on their Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Therefore, appearing in these exams and passing it with good percentile is a requirement to seek admission into India’s best Management Institutes. For the academic session 2017-19, the Common Admission Test 2016 will be held on December 4, 2016. Along with the score of CAT, IIMs uses multiple parameters, namely academic performance in school, high school and graduation programmes to judge the suitability of candidates. Relevant work experience is also given weightage.

Each IIM every year lays down different admission criteria and releases this criterion individually on their official website. According to these admission criteria only, the eligible candidates are selected for allotting admission. The admission criteria vary for each IIM.

IIM Admission Criteria – An Overview

After the conduction of test, the profiles of the candidates are analysed by the IIMs and eligible ones are called for Group Discussion (GD) or Personal Interview (PI). From this session, most of the IIMs have scrapped the GD round and instead they will conduct a Written Ability Test (WAT). Each interviewer will use the PI and WAT to comprehensively evaluate the candidate’s ability to fit in and benefit from the PGP programme. The evaluating committee would assess the performance of the candidates in the PI process and make a final offer. There will be no quota or fixed number of seats for such candidates. There will also be no wait-lists for the same reason.
