CENTAC 2016 - The Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) will oversee admissions to all the first year professional degree courses offered in Government and Self Financing colleges of the U.T of Puducherry. Admissions to the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes will be done on the basis of the scores in the Class 12 or its equivalent examination for candidates belonging to Puducherry and on the basis of the JEE (Main) 2016 scores for candidates from other states and UTs.

Earlier, admissions to the undergraduate courses in engineering were done through the CENTAC JET. In the year 2015, however, the Puducherry government scrapped this entrance exam and adopted the scores of candidates in the Joint Entrance Examination and the Class XII Examination as the basis for admissions. The applications for admissions of CENTAC 2016 will be made available online from 9 May 2016.  CENTAC 2016 Eligibility Criteria

The following are the eligibility conditions that will apply for candidates who wish to be considered for CENTAC 2016 Admissions:

  • The applicant ought to be a citizen of India or French National under the Treaty of Cession;
  • The applicant is also required to have passed the HSC/Class 12 Examination conducted by the board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or its equivalent with a minimum of 45% marks (40% marks in the case of OBC/BCM/MBC/EBC/BT/SC/ST category applicants);
  • Aspirants from other states are also required to have appeared and qualified in the JEE Main 2016 Exam;
  • The age of the applicant should not exceed 21 years as on 1 July of the year of the examination.

CENTAC 2016 Application Form

The application form of CENTAC will be made available online from 9 May 2016 onwards. Interested candidates can download the application form from centaconline.in. The print of the online application form that is complete in all respects is to be sent by courier or post or submitted in person at the CENTAC Office before the last date that has been specified. A fee of Rs.500/- (Rs.250/-in the case of SC/BT categories) will be applicable for all the candidates filling out the CENTAC 2016 Application Form.

CENTAC 2016 Selection Criteria

The Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) of the Government of Puducherry does not conduct a separate entrance examination of its own for the selection of candidates for admissions. All admissions will be done on the basis of the performance of candidates in the HSC or its equivalent examination. Candidates from other states are also required to have appeared and secured an All India Rank (AIR) in the JEE Main 2016 that is conducted by CBSE in order to qualify for admissions.

CENTAC 2016 Counselling Procedure

Candidates who fall within the qualifying merit category of CENTAC can participate in the counselling for admissions to the B.Tech programmes. To participate in the counselling process, candidates are required to pay a counselling fee of Rs.850/- (Rs.350/- in the case of SC/ST category candidates). Seats will be allocated to candidates on the basis of their merit and the availability of seats at the time of the CENTAC 2016 Counselling.
