Tip 2 – Prepare time table and follow it

Next step is to know the dynamics of preparation and exam – syllabus, exam pattern, marking scheme and important topics. Once you are done with this, you must prepare a time table. In the timetable, you must allocate equal time to all the subjects but a little more preference to the important topics. Final months of preparation are very stressful but you can cast away this stress if you follow the time table from the beginning. You must know your subjects and the topics you are weak at; thereby you must prepare the time table so that no subject or topic is left out. You can take help of former successful candidates, teachers and friends. It is necessary to follow the time table you have created else it would be futile. Hence you must try to follow the time table and complete the syllabus by January.

Tip 3 - Strengthen concepts and paying attention to weak points

You must strengthen the key topics in each subject – math, physics and chemistry. Further, you must recognize the weak links in your preparation and the topics which you do not understand well. Identifying these topics and understanding them will pay off eventually as preparing these topics when the time is very less would only add to stress. Syllabus details such topics and you must browse them, thereafter you must start preparing for them with the help of books, e-books, seminar, online lectures, reference guides, teachers, seniors and friends. By the time you are done with these topics, you will gain confidence and hence you can prepare for the rest of the topics easily. Some of the topics are very important as a major part of questions are composed from them hence you must be prepared for them.

Tip 4 – Solving last year sample papers

You must solve the last year sample papers in online mode or offline mode. You can get them from the book shops or online. By solving the sample papers, you can get an idea of the exam pattern and other aspects such as – key topics which have higher weightage in the examination, number of questions, type of questions, marking scheme, exam scheme and distribution of questions. Some questions in the sample papers might actually come in exam with different values so they will be like bonus questions. Other benefits of the sample papers are that they tell you how well prepared you are for the exam. Thus you can work on the problem areas and improve your efficiency in terms of speed and accuracy. Sample papers can be solved with the time constraint to replicate the exam environment. Once you are done with covering syllabus, you must proceed to solve the sample papers.

Tip 5 – Avoiding distractions & taking care of health

You must understand that the time is very important and you cannot afford to lose even one second. All other things can wait and you must focus only on your studies as of now. You can return to friends, social networking and games once the exam is over. Any kind of interruption can be very harmful as you will be distracted for a longer period of time even after the activity is over. Hobbies are good to relax after long study sessions but you must not overdo them. Have healthy meals; avoid junk and fast food to maintain health. Even a disease as small as cough and cold can hamper your studies so you must take care of health in utmost priority. Take fruits, veggies and lot of protein foods to keep the stamina high. You must not waste time at all as it is a matter of few months only, you can resume your activities later on.

Tip 6 – Memorizing, not cramming

You must not cram or mug up the topics. Your approach must be to memorize them by heart and mind. Mugging up topics and concepts might give you an illusion that you have learnt the topics however it might not be so. Important derivations and formulae must be learnt. You must prepare notes, diagrams, and ready reckoner for quick reference of key points. It would also help you in revision as you would be saved from hassle of turning pages over repeatedly. Important formulas are very crucial because they save a lot of time in the examination. You just need to apply the formula, enter the values and get the answer. If you learn the topics, in the exam you can remember them quickly else you would mess them all up which can be very dangerous thing to do in the exam. Practice a lot to memorize these topics.

Tip 7 – Positive attitude and correct approach in the 11th hour

When the exam is nearing, many candidates get nervous even if they prepared well and learnt everything by heart. It is seen many times that even brightest of candidates succumb to the pressure of the examination. We would like to tell you that you should not get stressed at all. Stress can adversely affect the performance and deprive you from getting good score. You must be confident because this is just an examination, not a matter of life and death. Be confident and be easy, the cool you would be the better you can be at the examination. You would be able to give your best only if you are determined yet at ease. So just stay cool and give your best in the examination.

The syllabus for all the subjects is clearly mentioned in the official brochure however there is no end to studying. Thus you must be wise enough to pick and learn the important topics first and then cover rest of the syllabus at a normal pace. This step is recommended because there are some topics which are more relevant and important than the others from the exam perspective. Learning the important topics first will ensure that you are able to cover maximum number of questions.
Thus it increases the chances of your good score if you have practiced that particular topic very well. As the days are nearing, you must give your best shot in preparation of these important topics. Always remember that not all topics carry equal weightage and they do not even carry same number of questions. Some reasons why you should pay extra attention to the important topics are given below.

Reason 1 – Important topics cover more marks

The topics which have a relative higher weightage in the examination are called important topics. Candidates appearing for the exam must pay special attention and time to such topics. They must identify these topics from previous year papers and trends and prepare them accordingly.

Reason 2 - Important topics result into overall good score

You are advised to practice these topics as much as you can. Once you have identified these topics, cover them from the syllabus using guides, books and reference material. You must prepare these topics so that you can have overall good score in the examination. You will be able to solve a major part of the question paper.

Reason 3 - Important topics compose the subject core

Each subtopic as mentioned in the syllabus is important but there are some core topics based on which other topics are derived. Thus if you study these important core topics, you will find it easier to cover the derived sub-topics. These topics are applied to all the other chapters and hence the possibility of understanding the related topics increases.

Reason 4 - Important topics boost understanding

Your prime focus must be to understand the topics so that you don’t have to devote much time in revision. If you develop understanding of the topics, you would find it easier to revise. Further this habit of understanding will also help you in further studies and career. Thus you would need less time to grasp concepts.

Reason 5 - Help in preparation of JEE Advanced 2015
