Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering

GATE 2018 GATE 2018 - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2018 will be conducted by IIT Guwahati on February 3, 4, 10 and 11 in 8 multiple sessions across 199 exam cities in India and 6 cities abroad. IIT Guwahati has announced the exam schedule of GATE 2018 for 23 papers. The mock test for GATE 2018 has been released for all papers on November 23. The last date to fill and submit application form of GATE 2018 has ended on October 9, 2017. Eligible candidates will be able to download the admit card of GATE 2018 on January 5, 2018. GATE 2018 is a national level postgraduate entrance test that offers admissions to M.E./M.Tech/Ph.D in IITs/NITs/CFITs and other institutes in India, along with recruitment purpose in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like BHEL, GAIL, ONGC, IOCL among others. The scorecard of GATE 2018 will be valid for three years for M.Tech admission from its date of declaration. GATE 2018, will be jointly monitored and administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB) - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. What's New in GATE 2018?

  • There are 6 new exam centres/towns of India added to the list of GATE exam centres 2018
  • According to the brochure for GATE 2018, the candidates are not required to upload their left-hand thumb impression while filling the GATE online application form.
  • The result will be announced on March 17. But GATE 2018 score card will be available for download from March 20 to May 31, 2018.
  • For the academic year 2018- 19, GATE 2018 will be held across 199 cities in India.

GATE 2018 Zonal Centres

The computer-based GATE exam is jointly monitored and administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology situated at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee. The operations related to GATE exam is managed by respective zonal GATE Office at the IITs or IISc. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is the Organizing Institute (OI) for GATE 2018. The institute is responsible for the process and coordination amongst the administering institutes. Candidates can check the details of GATE 2018 zonal offices from the table given below.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2018

The candidates who will be appearing for GATE 2018 must make sure that they fulfil the eligibility requirement as specified by the organising committee, IIT Guwahati. The given eligibility criteria of GATE 2018 must be met by the applicants:

  • The candidates should be an Indian national or must belong to Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates countries to apply for GATE 2018.
  • The candidates must have completed Bachelors degree holders in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after B.Sc./Diploma in Engineering /Technology)

All the below qualifying degree candidates can fill the online application form of GATE 2018:

  • B.E./B.Tech
  • B.Arch
  • B.Sc (Research)/B.S.
  • M.Sc./M.A./MCA or Equivalent
  • Int. M.E./M.Tech

GATE Application Form 2018

The filling up of GATE 2018 application form has ended on October 9, 2017. The online registration had started from August 31. IIT Guwahati has started application scrutiny for all the eligible candidates. They can change the examination centre for appearing GATE 2018 before November 17, 2017.As the information brochure has been released by IIT Guwahati candidates are advised to go through it carefully to know their eligibility and application procedure before beginning the online registration of GATE 2018. Candidates are advised to read the prospectus carefully as and when it is released by the concerned authority, to know their eligibility and application procedure before beginning the online registration of GATE 2018. Basically, the registration process of GATE 2018 is a five-stage procedure. The first stage is registration for the exam where candidates have to fill in the online application and obtain the registration number. At stage 2, candidates are required to fill personal and academic details. In the next stage, candidates have to upload their photographs, signature and documents as required. Stage 4 included making payment for the exam through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking or Bank Challan. During the last stage, candidates have to take aprintout of confirmation page of filled -in GATE application form 2018 and preserve it for future purposes.

GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) 2018:

Below are thestepwise procedure on How to Fill GATE application form 2018:

Step 1 - Registration: Candidates need to register first by providing a valid email ID and mobile number along with a password.

Step 2 Logging and filling the GATE 2018 application form: Candidates have to enter all the details such as personal, academic and address, etc. They must upload all required documents and submit before the last date.

Step 3 Uploading photograph, Signature, and other documents: Candidates uploaded their photograph, signature and degree certificate, category certificate if applicable, and medical certificate in case of PwD candidates. Final year students must upload a scanned image of third year (fifth/sixth semester) mark sheet instead of the degree certificate.

Step 4 Payment of application fees: The fee to be paid was Rs.1,500 (Rs.750 for SC/ST/Pwd/Female candidates). Payment had to be made through net banking or e-challan. Additional bank charges were applicable as per norms. International students who belong to Dubai and Singapore have to payUS$100 and candidates belonging to Addis Ababa, Dhaka, Colombo and Kathmandu have to pay US$ 50.

Step 5 Print out of GATE application form-Candidates are required to download and print the GATE 2018 application form for future reference.

GATE application form correction 2018: Candidates will be given time to correct details in GATE application form 2018. All candidates have to contact their respective zonal centres and correct details by sending an email regarding the correction of data. Candidates have to mention their enrollment ID and type of correction along with a document proof. Details that can be corrected are - name of the candidate, address, name of parent/guardian, qualifying degree, year and have you graduated in the above degree?.

Gate candiates Statistics

GATE Admit Card 2018

The admit card of GATE 2018 will be released by IIT Guwahati on January 5, 2018. Candidates can download GATE admit card 2018 from the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) window within the given time period (to be notified by IIT-G). To download the admit card, candidates have to enter their enrolment ID or registered email ID, password and captcha. It must be noted that the candidates must take a colour printout of admit card and carry it to the exam centres along with any one of the original identification proofs including Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar UID, Valid College ID, Employee identification card and Driving License, but it necessary to carry that ID proof as it will be required for the entrance test. The candidates who belong to the International countries must produce only a valid Passport/Government issued ID/College ID/ Employee ID which is to be accepted as the recognized identification.

GATE Exam Centres 2018

The organizing committee, IIT Guwahati has released the list of examination cities of GATE 2018. The entrance test will be conducted in around 200 exam centres of GATE 2018. The candidate can choose three cities from the list of test entres. The first and second choices must be from the same GATE zone and third choice can be from any GATE zonal centres.

If a candidate chooses a particular city (in a particular zone) as the first choice, then they will be able to choose the city of second choice only from that particular zone. However, third choice can be from any one of the listed cities.

GATE Exam Pattern 2018

The detailed information about the exam pattern of GATE 2018 can be checked in the table provided below. The online examination will be 3 hours long and will consist of 65 questions - Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) as well as Numerical Answer Type (NAT). The questions asked in GATE 2018 will be designed to test the conceptual clarity and understanding of basics of the subject. The computation based questions will be the test to their understanding about concept implementation.

GATE 2018 questions booklet will have two different types of questions in various papers.

(i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) - These types of questions will be objective in nature having four options, out of which candidates have to choose one correct option. These types of questions will either carry 1 or 2 marks.

(ii) Numerical Answer Type (NAT) These types of questions will be based on mathematical calculation. There will be no answer options for numerical type questions, and candidates have to enter the obtained answer using virtual keypad. The answer for these types of questions will be a real number, and candidates are advised to give the answer up to a maximum of three decimal places.

Design of GATE Questions: The questions paper of GATE 2018 is designed to test candidates conceptual clarity and understanding of basics of the subject. The computation based questions will test their understating about concept implementation and its result on various parameters.

GATE Syllabus 2018

The examination authority, IIT Guwahati has released discipline wise syllabus of GATE 2018. Each discipline of GATE 2018 has a different syllabus. Candidates are advised to download the syllabus as per their discipline and prepare themselves accordingly for the exam. The GATE syllabus 2018 for General Aptitude paper will be common for all candidates.

GATE Sample Papers 2018

The sample papers of GATE 2018 will enable the candidates to prepare themseleves to test at every stage and measure their progress. The previous year GATE 2018 question papers can be used by the candidates for practice purposes and to get knowledge of the actual questions of the entrance test.

GATE Mock Test 2018

IIT Guwahati has made available the mock test of GATE 2018 by on November 23, 2017. The GATE mock test will be different for each 23 papers. The duration of the test is 180 minutes and the total number of questions will be approximately 55 for each subject and 10 questions for GA discipline. Candidates preparing for GATE 2018 can regularly take the mock test for better preparation.

GATE Answer Key 2018

Official GATE Answer Key 2018 will be provided by IIT Guwahati, the organising committee for GATE 2018. The institute will provide separate answer keys for all 23 papers. Candidates, who have appeared in the Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering (GATE), can check and download the answer key as per their discipline from the link to be made available as and when it is released.

GATE Result 2018

The result of GATE 2018 will be declared on March 17, 2018. The GATE result 2018 will be announced for only those candidates, who will score equal to or more than the specified qualifying marks as per their category. Each subject of GATE 2018 will have different qualifying marks. Candidates can check their GATE 2018 result from the link to be provided on this page. The score will be valid for three years.

The procedure to check GATE 2018 result is given below:

  • Click on GATE Result tab.
  • Enter GATE 2018 Registration Number, Roll Number and Date of Birth in the fields provided.
  • Cross check all the details entered before submitting
  • After verification, click on Submit button and the result will be displayed
  • Download the result and take print outs for further reference

GATE Score Card 2018

The GATE 2018 scorecards can be downloaded between 20 March 2018 to 31 May 2018 from the GOAPS portal. The examination authority will not issue hard copies of the scorecards. Therefore candidates have to download it within the prescribed dates.In case, a GATE qualified candidate requires the soft copy of their GATE Scorecard after 31 May 2018 and till 31 December 2018, should pay a fee of 500 (five hundred only) for obtaining the same.

Based on the GATE 2018 score, candidates can either apply for M.E./M.Tech/ Ph.D. admissions in IITs/NITs/CFITs, and other universities in India or recruitment purpose in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like BHEL, GAIL, ONGC, IOCL, etc. Only those candidates who have obtained equal to or more than the specified cut off score (as announced by the PSU) can apply for the declared vacancies. While selecting candidates for academic programmes or recruitment, the concerned authority may take interview, written aptitude test or group discussion apart from GATE 2018 score.

GATE Cutoff 2018

GATE 2018 Cutoff score is meant to delimit the number of candidates for admission and to select those candidates who have scored more than or equal to the cutoff score.

Based on the GATE 2018 cutoff score, various PSUs, as well as IITs, NIITs & CFITs select candidates for jobs or academic programmes.

Last year, a total of 7, 87,148 candidates appeared in the test out of which 1, 29,149 candidates qualified the exam.

GATE Cutoff 2018 for Admission

GATE 2018 opening and closing ranks will also be announced by the institutes separately. The candidates who will fall in the rank range of the given scores will be given admission in the institutes. Candidates must check for the Institute cutoff/opening and closing rank as well as the branch wise cutoff and register themselves if they fulfil the requirements for admission.

GATE Counselling and Seat Allotment 2018

There is no single/common counselling held for GATE 2018 qualified candidates. The counselling of GATE 2018 qualified candidates will be conducted separately for NITs and IITs. Each of the participating institutes will conduct separate GATE 2018 counselling procedure for the qualified candidates. The candidates must visit the respective institutes they want to get admission and appear in the counselling process as per the schedule.

Highlights of GATE 2018

  • GATE 2018 will not have any common counselling for admission to IITs and NITs.
  • The IITs and IISc will conduct GATE counselling separately as per the respective institute for admission to M.Tech courses.
  • The NITs will conduct admission procedure through Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. Admissions (CCMT) 2018.
  • PSUs accepting GATE score will release their recruitment notification separately.

PSU Recruitment through GATE 2018

PSUs like BPCL, HPCL, IOCL etc will declare their recruitment through GATE 2018. Candidates must apply for the specified jobs if they meet the eligibility criteria. However, they will be shortlisted only if they have valid GATE scores and meet the cutoff determined by the respective PSUs.
