Goa CET 2016 Cutoff would be set by the exam governing body of Goa Common Entrance Test 2016 to delimit the candidates in the admission process of B.Tech/B.E. UG courses in the participating colleges of the state. It is a selection parameter which is applied to restrict the candidate count for the next stage of admission i.e. counselling and allotment. Cutoff would be applied on the scores obtained in the entrance examination. Higher the score means better chances of getting favorite college seat and course. If a candidate has scored marks more than or equal to the cutoff, he would be selected for the next round however if the score is less, he would be dropped.
Some of the factors on which the Cutoff of Goa CET 2016 would be decided are – number of candidates, number of seats, reservation norms, last year admission trends, exam difficulty level, marking scheme, and opening/closing cutoff of different colleges. The exam governing body would assess these factors and decide a judicial cutoff score as a screening factor. Another purpose here of the cutoff, as we observe, is that it is applied to pick the best lot of candidates for selection so the quality of candidates is maintained. Declaration of cutoff would be done with the release of examination result and scorecard.
All the selected candidates screened on the basis of Goa CET 2016 Cutoff Score would be enlisted in a merit list on the basis of score. Higher the score lower would be the ranking i.e. the candidate with highest marks would be placed at the top of the merit list. The one with score equal to the cutoff would be placed at the bottom of the list. Thus we can see the relation between cutoff, merit list, and ranking. In other words, if the rank of the candidate is lower than the cutoff rank or even equal to it, he would be selected for merit list otherwise not. It is important to note that each college and course would have its own cutoff criteria.
Call for counselling and seat allotment process would be made as per the appearance of a candidate in the merit list. Lower the rank means earlier the call. Thus a candidate with lower ranking would get preferred in call for Goa CET 2016 Counselling as well as allotment as his options of courses and colleges would be preferred.
