IISER Eligibility Criteria 2016

Candidates seeking admissions to the five-year BS-MS Dual Degree Programs that are offered at the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) are required to meet certain eligibility requirements. The essential Eligibility Criteria of IISER has been elaborated here below. Any applicant, who does not meet the minimum eligibility requirements that have been set out by the Institute, will be disqualified from the admission process with immediate effect and without prior notice. It is important, therefore, that candidates understand all the conditions of eligibility for admissions to IISER before they proceed to enroll for the entrance exam.

The five-year BS-MS Dual Degree Programs are offered at the Kolkata, Bhopal, Mohali, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune & Tirupati campuses of the IISER. Candidates will be admitted to the relevant study program through three channels viz., the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2016 and the State and Central Board Examinations. Eligibility Criteria of IISER 2016:

Candidates belonging to one of the categories indicated below are eligible to apply for IISER Admissions 2016:

  • Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Basic Science Stream: Students qualifying in SA (2014)/SX (2015)/SB (2015).
  • Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced 2016): Students who have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in class XII and have been enlisted in the Rank List of the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced 2016) for the admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
  • State and Central Boards: Science stream students who have passed class XII in the year 2015 or are appearing for the qualifying examination in the year 2016, with either

i. Marks above or equal to the cut-off percentage that has been declared by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) as the eligibility for INSPIRE fellowship 2016. There will be a relaxation of 5% in the DST Cutoff for OBC (Non-Creamy layer) & PD category candidates. The cut-off for SC/ST candidates and Kashmiri Migrants(KM) from all boards will be 55% in class XII;  or

ii. Advisory note for the eligibility for Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) under the INSPIRE scheme, based solely on their performance in the Class XII board examination

  • Students seeking admissions through the State and Central Boards channel will have to appear and qualify in the IISER Aptitude Test.
