The National Institute of Technology (NITs) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are working together to build a new software that will make common counseling more easier. HRD Ministry will submit an affidavit in high court, Delhi for the same on 30 November 2014 (Sunday).
On 01 August 2014 (Friday), MHRD was advised by the HC to create a technical committee in order to modify the process of common counseling for getting admission into NITs and IITs. As per the HC direction, the changes will be effective from the 2015-16 academic session so that no seat will be left vacant.
HC has demanded MHRD and IITs to convert the leftover seats of reserve categories into general categories. Another suggestion offered to the IITs and HRD ministry to check whether they can implement the lateral entry scheme into IITs in 2nd year from NITs or other engineering colleges. If both suggested methods will be practiced no seat will be left empty, as per HC.
A petition was filed on the same over which HC is taking action and had also demanded the petitioners to provide suggestions on common counseling process to MHRD. The petitioner has suggested to form a Common Board for Admission to the NITs & IITs that will supervise a web portal which will come up as a single interface to help candidates in gathering seats into various institutes.
In addition, the candidates who get the sufficient marks in Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) to gain admission into the IITs should mechanically get registered through the common board. Candidates can put forward their preference list comprising choices through the web-portal. The seat allotment can be accomplished by the common board as per to the admission rules of IITs and NITs.
According to the HC direction, working of the Technical Committee will be supervised by the MHRD to ensure that it will provide the solution to the problems of common counseling for entry into the IITs and NITs. This process will come into functioning from the 2015-16 admission session. To execute the process on time, the ministry is supposed to co-ordinate with the IITs, NITs and the Committee.
