JEE Advanced 2018 to be conducted online by IIT KanpurJEE Advanced 2018 will be conducted in the online mode by IIT Kanpur for the academic year 2018. According to a release issued by the Joint Admission Board (JAB), the aim behind turning the exam online is to reduce the chances of paper leaks and ensure transparency in the entrance examination.

In a meeting attended by IIT directors, MHRD and CBSE officials on August 20, it was decided that JAB would set up a committee in a week which will work on the transition from the pen-and-paper based mode to online mode.

In the online mode, candidates will have an option to change their marked answers, which was not possible in the pen and paper based test. The Board, further, hopes to declare the result faster.

Provisions will also be made to make students familiar with the online mode of examination. Candidates will be given a three days training in which they will be able to take mock test.

As per sources, officials also discussed the marking scheme and a decision has also been taken to make the design of the question paper scientific. “This will take into account the complexity level of the paper while setting the questions ranging from simple to difficult,” a senior official said.

Earlier this year, many students raised objections over some questions in both the papers of JEE Advanced being incorrect. Following this, 18 bonus marks were awarded to all the students appearing in the examination. The decision of awarding grace marks was challenged by two students and the matter was taken up in the Supreme Court.

Around 1,59,540 out of 2,20,0000 JEE Main toppers appeared for JEE Advanced 2017 on May 21 in the offline mode. Of the total candidates who appeared for the test, 50,455 candidates qualified for admission into the prestigious 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) of the country.
