The paper 1 and paper 2 of JEE Advanced 2017 consisted of a total number of 54 questions, divided among Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In each paper, the subjects were further divided into three sections. Both the question paper was of 183 marks.

JEE Advanced 2017 paper 1 was held in the morning session from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The 1st section in each subject had 7 questions with one or more correct answers. There were 5 numerical based questions in section 2 with no negative marking, whereas section 3 comprised of 6 questions; each question having 4 options with single correct answer. The paper 2 of JEE Advanced 2017 was conducted in the forenoon session from 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Paper 2 comprised of 54 questions with maximum marks 183. Paper 2 was also divided into 3 sections. In each subject, section 1 had 7 Multiple choice questions, section 2 consisted 7 questions with one or more correct responses and there were two paragraphs in section 3.
