**Entrance Corner: **The JEE Main 2017 Paper I is now over, can you please share your overall analysis of the question paper?

**Vinay Kumar:** The Paper 1 of JEE Main 2017 was set up in a different manner compared to last two years. The Physics section of the exam was easy followed by chemistry and mathematics was the most difficult of all. The section on Maths was also a bit lengthier compared to other two. Candidates of JEE Main 2017 will score more marks in Physics and Chemistry and less in mathematics.

**Entrance Corner:** According to you which topics from JEE Main Syllabus dominated the JEE Main 2017 paper 1?

**Vinay Kumar:** The paper pattern of JEE Main was similar from the questions papers of previous years. The section of Chemistry had equal questions from all topics i.e. 10 questions from physical, 10 from Inorganic and 10 from Organic Chemistry. Even in Mathematics and Physics sections there were questions from all topics and parts of the syllabus.

**Entrance Corner: **How many candidates from your institute appeared for paper 1 of JEE Main 2017? What is their take on the exam?

**Vinay Kumar:** 5000 odd candidates have appeared for the JEE Main 2017 paper 1 from RAO IIT academy. Students were more comfortable in the Physics section. Some of the candidates who had appeared for the exam in the previous year found a shift of pattern in JEE Main exam. Previously Physics section was termed as the most difficult but this year mathematics was tough and lengthy. Candidates who attempted the mathematics section first lost out on the remaining exam as it consumed a lot of their time.

**Entrance Corner: **What according to your will be the expected JEE Main 2017 cutoff?

**Entrance Corner:** This year, candidates who are in the top percentile or have secured 75% marks in their class 12th boards will be eligible for admission. In your view, how will this affect the cutoff scores of JEE Main 2017?

**Vinay Kumar:** The new selection criteria adopted by CBSE will not affect the cutoff scores in a big way. The rank of candidates in the merit list will completely depend on the candidate’s performance in the exam. Hard work of candidates will definitely show in their results.

JEE Main 2017 Analysis by Rao IIT Academy

**Physics Analysis**

- Physics Questions of JEE Main 2017 were very much fundamental.
- All the questions in the physics section were NCERT based.
- 14 questions were from class 11 and remaining from class 12, thus topics from both the classes had almost equal weightage and was equally important.
- 17% of questions paper was from Modern Physics, Semiconductors and communication system.
- Overall Physics part was easy and easily solvable.

**Chemistry Analysis**

- The chemistry paper was easier in comparison to 2016 main offline paper except for 3-4 questions
- Questions were mostly asked mostly from the NCERT Books. Equal Weightage was given to physical, organic and inorganic chemistry
- In organic chemistry, 8 questions were from class 12 and 2 questions from class 11
- In Physical Chemistry, 7 questions were from class 12 and 4 questions were asked from class 11
- In organic chemistry, 4 questions were asked from class 12 and 5 questions from class 11 syllabus
- The maximum number of questions were mostly from the topics prescribed for class 12

**Overall Difficulty Level of Chemistry section**

**Mathematics Analysis**

- The level of Maths was similar to previous year but it was a bit lengthy
- Students who understood which questions to skip will end up scoring better than those who did not prioritise which questions to skip
- The Probability chapter got better weightage this time. Three questions were asked which is against the trend (i.e. one question from each chapter mostly). Two questions were little bit error prone i.e. from determinant and were (lengthy)
- Questions from quadratic, progression, straight line, circle and probability were little bit tricky.
- Two questions have come from the topics which are only in Mains but not in advanced (i.e. Height and distance, Mathematical reasoning)
- 13 Questions were asked from class 11, 16 questions from 12 and one question was a combination of class 11 and 12 (NCERT syallabus)
- Total only 4 questions were asked from 2-D in spite of 5 questions in general.

**Overall Difficulty Level of Mathematics section**

JEE Main answer key 2017 has been published on April 2 by Rao IIT Academy for Paper 1.
