JoSAA 2016JoSAA 2016 -The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has started the counselling for JEE Main 2016 and JEE Advanced 2016 qualifiers. The JoSAA 2016 counselling started on 24 June 2016, with online choice filling. The last date to submit the choicesfor the counselling is 29 June 2016 and the seat allotment result of the JoSAA 2016 counselling will be announced on 30 June 2016. The counselling of JoSAA 2016 is being held for the allocation of seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs. Eligibility Criteria for JoSAA 2016

In order to be considered eligible to participate in the Joint Seat Allocation procedure, candidates will have to satisfy one or more of the criterions that have been indicated below:

For IITs and ISM Dhanbad:

1. The candidate should have qualified JEE Advanced 2016 for academic programs other than preparatory courses offered at the IITs and ISM Dhanbad and should also satisfy the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination performance criteria;

2. The candidate should have qualified JEE Advanced 2016 for preparatory courses offered at the IITs and ISM Dhanbad and should also satisfy the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination performance criteria;

For NITs, IIITs and GFTIs:

3. The candidate should have secured a rank in Paper-1 of JEE Main 2016 and should have a minimum aggregate of 45% marks in Class 12 or its equivalent examination (40% in case of OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD category candidates). To calculate the aggregate score, the marks of the candidate in any one language paper, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Any other Technical vocational subject and a fifth subject will be taken into consideration;

4. The candidate should have secured a rank in Paper-2 of JEE Main 2016 and should have a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Class 12 or its equivalent examination with Mathematics as a core subject.

JoSAA 2016 Participating Institutes and Number of Seat

Around 87 institutes will participate in the joint seat allocation procedure. The list of the participating institutes has been given below:

  • The 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), includingIndian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad
  • The 32 National Institutes of Technology (NITs)
  • The 18 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)
  • 18 Other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)

JoSAA 2016 Registration and Choice Filling

Eligible candidates who wish to participate in the joint seat allocation procedure will have to complete registration and choice filling through the official web portal of JoSAA. Candidates can fill in their choices of the academic programs from the first week of July 2016 onwards tentatively. Candidates are instructed to take a printout of the final choices that have been locked by them. Registration for JoSAA 2016 will be free and candidates will not be required to make any kind of payment.

JoSAA 2016 Seat Allocation Procedure

JoSAA 2016 will allocate seats to various academic programs on the basis of the seat matrix data that has been provided by the various participating institutes. For the purpose of allocating a seat, candidates who are found eligible will be divided into different categories first. The category of a candidate will be determined on the basis of the birth category of a candidate (General/Gen-PwD/OBC-NCL/OBC-NCL-PwD/SC/SC-PwD/ST/ST-PwD), the nationality of the candidate and the presence or absence of any disability. For the allotment of a seat to an academic program, the following factors will be taken into consideration:

  • The category of the candidate
  • The rank position of the candidate
  • The order of preference of academic programs indicated by the candidate
  • The availability of seats in the category or quota for which the candidate is found eligible
    Other business rules.
