The Rajasthan State Government has decided to scrap the Rajasthan Pre-Engineering Test (REPT) from the year 2015 onwards. Engineering course pursuing aspirants used to take up RPET, as its scores were taken as a deciding factor for soughting admissions to eligible students in various engineering colleges in the Rajasthan state. Now the Government has constituted a committee, named as “Centralised Admission Committee (CAC)” which has been authorized to foresee the admissions which will be allotted for the academic year 2015-16.
The CAC comprise of various experts belonging to various technical field and who possess remarkable expertise in their respective fields. The Minister for Higher and Technical education, Rajasthan, Mr. Kali Charan Saraf has said that 70% of the RPET seats will be available for the students belonging to the Rajasthan state in the up-coming session.
Out of these 70% seats, 50% will be allotted on the basis of 2015 JEE Main merit list, while the other 50% will be allotted on the basis of class 12 exam merit list. On the basis of percentile formula adopted by the state government, which puts CBSE/RBSE students on a level-playing field, a merit list will be prepared considering the scores of the students qualifying in their class 12th Rajasthan Board exams. Also, 15% seats will be assigned via management quota and the left over 15% seats will be reserved of the students not belonging to Rajasthan state.
The rate of appearing students in the RPET was dropping continuously and this lead the Government to scrap it and replace it with a better system. The Minister, Mr. Saraf also told that “The decision has been taken in the interest of students who had to write different entrance exams. The students also had to take coaching for them. For the session 2016-17, all the admissions will be done only on the basis of JEE merit list.”
