IES 2018: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released IES 2018 notification on September 27, 2017. The commission has announced a total of 588 vacancies for various departments under Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics and Telecommunication engineering disciplines. The application form has been released online and aspirants can submit their applications through the same mode. The IES 2018 exam will be conducted in three phases – Preliminary, Mains and Personality test . As per UPSC exam calendar 2018, the Preliminary exam of IES is scheduled to be conducted on January 7, 2018 followed by mains examination on July 7, 2018. The dates of Personality Test will be informed after the declaration of result of mains exam. Marks obtained by candidates in all the three stages will be considered for final merit list. Candidates will be allotted to the various services keeping in view their ranks in the exam and preferences of posts. IES 2018 Vacancies
UPSC has announced 588 vacancies under Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics and Telecommunication engineering. Out of 588 total vacancies, 18 are for PH candidates (LDCP‐15 & HI‐03) vacancies. The number of vacancies is liable to alteration. Reservations will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Physically Disabled Category in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the Government of India.

The eligibility criteria of IES gives details about the eligibility requirement set by UPSC for candidates interested in applying for the exam. The IES eligibility criteria includes nationality, academic qualification and age limit. Candidates to be eligible for the exam must fulfill the IES eligibility criteria 2018. Academic qualification: At least a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (B.E. / B. Tech) from a recognised university or equivalent. M.Sc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects are acceptable for certain services / posts only.
Age Limit: Candidates should be between 21 to 30 years.
Nationality: Indian/Nepalese/ Bhutanese/ Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 to settle in India or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to settle in India.
The application form of IES 2018 has been released on September 27, 2017. The last date to fill IES application form is October 23, 2017. Candidates need to fill the application form online. The application fee for IES 2018 is Rs 200 for General and OBC category candidates and women/SC/ST/ PH need not to pay any fees. The application fee can be paid either through offline or online mode. The IES application form 2018 can be filled in two parts – Part 1 Registration and Part 2 Registration. The steps to fill IES application form is given below.
Part 1 Registration
In Part I registration, candidate will have to fill basic information such as personal details, academic qualification, address, email ID, contact number etc.
Part 2 Registration
In Part 2, candidates will have to pay application fees, select centres, upload photograph and signature and agree to declaration.
IES Exam Cities 2018
UPSC will release the list of IES exam cities along with the notification. Candidates should enter their choice of examination centre while filling the online application form. Candidates will be allotted exam cities on first-apply-first-allot basis. The exam cities of IES prelims and mains are different.
The admit card of IES prelims exam will be released in the last week of December 2017. The admit cards will be released for only those candidates whose applications will be accepted by examination authority. The IES admit card will be available online and candidates can access their admit cards through the link provided on this page. Candidates can download IES Admit Card 2018 by entering either their roll number/registration number and date of birth. The IES admit card 2018 for mains exam will be released in mid of June 2018 for only those candidates who will qualify the prelims exam.
The exam pattern of IES gives details about the marking scheme, stages of examination, mode of exam, number of questions, number of sections and total marks. The IES exam is conducted in three phases – Preliminary, Mains and Personality Test. The preliminary examination as per IES exam pattern 2018 consists of objective type questions. The exam will comprise of two papers – Paper I General Studies and Engineering Aptitude and Paper 2 Engineering discipline specific paper. The maximum marks allotted to Preliminary exam is 500 marks. The IES mains exam will consists of two conventional type papers on engineering discipline. The total marks of IES mains exam is 600. The Personality Test will carry 200 marks. The syllabus of IES for both preliminary and mains examination has been defined by UPSC. The IES syllabus of engineering specific discipline has been framed as per the curriculum of engineering degree examination of an Indian University. The standard of paper of General Studies and Engineering Aptitude will be basically of an Engineering/Science Graduate level. The IES sample papers will give the candidates an fair idea of the paper pattern, difficulty level, topic-wise distribution of questions, marks distribution etc. The sample papers will help candidates to enhance their problem solving ability and boost up their speed. Candidates should solve the sample papers regularly to prepare for the exam in a better way. Solving the sample papers, candidates can identify their weak areas, thus, enabling them to focus on those areas.
The answer key of IES Preliminary examination will be released by coaching institutes after the completion of exam on January 7, 2018. Candidates can download here IES answer key for all sets of question booklets – A, B, C, D. Candidates who will appear in the exam can check correct answers to General Studies and Engineering Aptitude and Engineering Specific discipline. Candidates based on correct and incorrect answers can calculate their probable score. UPSC will release official IES answer key of preliminary exam after the completion of recruitment process.
The result of IES will be released by examination authority in three phases – Preliminary, Mains and Final. At the first stage, the IES result of preliminary exam will be declared followed by mains and final result. The commission will release IES result 2018 of prelims will be declared in March/April 2018. Candidates on the basis of their marks in preliminary exam will be selected for mains exam. The number of candidates to be selected for mains examination will be about six to seven times the total approximate number of vacancies. The result of IES mains exam will be announced September/October. Candidates twice the number of vacancies will be called for personality test. The final result of IES will be declared on the basis of the marks obtained by candidates in Preliminary exam, Mains exam and Personality Test. The commission will decide the ranks of candidates under each category on the basis of their performance in all the three stages.
The cutoff of IES is the minimum marks required to qualify the exam and become eligible for next stage of selection procedure. Candidates on the basis of the IES cutoff of written stage will be selected for Personality Test. The commission will decide IES cutoff for preliminary examination out of 500 marks to select candidates for mains examination. Similarly, UPSC will decide cutoff score in mains examination out of 600 marks. Based on IES cutoff 2017 of prelims and mains, candidates will be selected for Personality test. The final cutoff of IES will be based on the marks secured by last finally qualified candidates out of 1300 marks. The IES cutoff 2018 for all the stages- Prelims, Mains and Final will be released after declaration of final result. The commission will prepare All India Merit list based on the category-wise and discipline-wise cutoff score. Candidates whose names will feature in the merit list will be given appointment to the various posts.
