BLAT 2017 – The application process for Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Law Admission Test (BLAT) concluded on March 04, 2017. The candidates who have submitted the application form on or before the end date will be issued the admit card on or after May 10, 2017. The date for BLAT has been postponed to May 17, 2017. Earlier, the date for the test was May 14, 2017, clashing with the exam date of CLAT 2017. BLAT will be held in offline mode for admission to the 60 seats of the B.A. LL.B programme of BHU. The admit card will be available in online mode and the candidates can access the same from this article. On the day of the test, the candidates must make sure that they carry the admit card along with a valid photo ID. The result is expected to be announced around the 2nd week of June 2017. The candidates are advised to check the eligibility norms of the test before they start with the registration. If the candidates fail to meet any norms of the test, then their candidature will be cancelled in the later admission rounds. Before the candidates start filling in the application form, the candidates must make sure that they fulfill the following criteria –
- The candidates must have passed their Class 10 + 2 or equivalent exam from a recognized Board or University.
- The final year candidates are also eligible to apply for the test.
- The candidates must have a score of 50% (OBC: 45% & SC/ST: 40%) in their qualifying exam.
The application form for BHU Law Admission Test 2017 will be available online around the last week of January. With the release of the application form, the candidates can access the same from this article. It must be noted that the University will not sell the hardcopy of the BLAT Prospectus or the application form.
The candidates who have successfully submitted the complete application form before the deadline will be issued the admit card and can appear for the test. While filling in the application form, the candidates must make sure that they fill in the details correctly. Any discrepancy in the application form may lead to the cancellation of the candidature in the document verification round.
Application fee for BLAT 2017
After the release of the BLAT brochure and other notification, details about the fee will be furnished. Last year, the application fee was Rs. 500/- (SC/ST: Rs. 200/-). To conclude the application process, the candidates must pay the BHU LAT application fee before the deadline. The candidates can pay the fee via online as well as offline mode.
To pay the application fee via online mode, the candidates can make the payment through Credit/Debit card. In order to pay the fee through the offline mode, the candidates are required to pay the cash through the e-Challan at any HDFC branch.
BLAT 2017 Reservation Norms
Banaras Hindu University strictly follows the reservation guidelines of Bar Council of India. A total of 15% of the seats will be reserved for the candidates applying under the Schedule Caste and 7.5% for the candidates applying under the Schedule Tribe category. For the candidates applying under the Other Backward Class category, 27% of the seats will be reserved while for the candidates under the Physically Challenged category, 3% of the seats will be reserved.
The candidates applying for the test under the above categories must produce them required documents to support their reservation. The candidates failing to produce their reservation category documents will be considered in the General category.
The entrance test for BHU B.A. LL.B. admission is being held many various Indian cities. These cities host various test centres. The list of test cities will be released after the announcement of the BLAT notification. However, the candidates can check the list of test cities that hosted last year’s test centres –

The exam body will issue the hall ticket for BHU BA LLB entrance test around the 3rd week of May 2017. Also, the exam body will notify the candidates through email and SMS. The hall ticket will be available in online mode and the candidates can access the same from this article. Only the candidates who have submitted the application form before the deadline will be issued the admit card. In order to access the admit card, the candidates are required to log in to their respective accounts.
The BHU BA LLB entrance test admit card is an important document and the candidates must carry the same to the exam hall on the day of the test. The candidates failing to produce the admit card to the invigilator will not be allowed to enter the exam hall. Details of the candidates and rules of the exam will be furnished in the admit card.
The candidates preparing for BHU Law Admission Test 2017 are advised to become familiar with the exam pattern. This will help the candidates to know the sections and various other details of the test. The test will be held in an offline mode and the candidates will be given 120 minutes i.e. 2 hours. Total marks of the test are 450 only. There will be a total of 120 Multiple Choice Questions and these questions will be distributed into the following sections –
- General Awareness & Current Affairs
- Common Legal Knowledge
- Aptitude & Mental Ability
- Language Comprehension
The candidates must prepare according to the test pattern since there is no definite syllabus for the test. The test will contain questions from General Awareness & Current Affairs, Common Legal Knowledge, Aptitude & Mental Ability, Language Comprehension.
Within few days after the conduct of the test, the University will release the answer key. These BLAT answer keys will be available online and the candidates can also access the same here. With the help of the answer keys, the candidates can compare their answers against the keys and estimate their scores.
Banaras Hindu University will release the result for BLAT online around the 2nd week of June 2017. With the release of the result, the candidates can check the same in this article. The result will furnish the candidate’s overall merit and category-wise score. BHU will also send the overall merit and category-wise score to the candidates to their registered email address and mobile number. On accessing the result, the candidates are advised to download the same and keep a copy of it for future reference.
Merit List for BLAT 2017
The merit list for BHU Law Admission Test will be released with the result. The BLAT merit list will furnish the following details of the candidate –

The BHU LAT 2017 merit list will be available online and the candidates can access the same here. The University will conduct the counselling rounds according to the merit list.
The cutoff scores of BLAT are the minimum marks that the candidates must score in order to be eligible for the pre-admission rounds i.e. the counselling rounds. The University will not release any cutoff marks for BLAT 2017. However, the candidates can check the cutoff marks for the test by clicking on the sub-heading above.
The merit list will furnish the name of the candidates who have been shortlisted for the counselling rounds. These candidates are the ones who have scored the required cutoff scores. The shortlisted candidates are required to follow the steps given below in order to participate in the counselling rounds –
- Fill the preference entry form.
- Be present at the venue on the day of the counselling.
- Pay the admission fee.
- Submit the proof of the admission fee to the officials at the venue on the next day of counselling.
