NEET 2017 – Students may get 8 Bonus Marks for Wrong QuestionsThe answer key for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 was released by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on June 15. As per the media reports, the CBSE’s expert committee has acknowledged that there is ambiguity in two questions in the Physics section of some of the sets, and it’s likely that the students will be awarded 8 bonus marks for these questions.

The issue of ambiguous questions first came to light after the NEET 2017 exam was conducted on May 7, 2017. Many experts and students had raised concerns that there were ambiguous questions in some of the sets of NEET exam. In response to these concerns, the CBSE had said that ambiguity in questions is an academic issue and will be looked into by the subject experts. However, in the subsequent days, the NEET 2017 exam got embroiled in several other controversies and the issue of ambiguous questions got sidelined. It once again came to the fore after the release of the answer key on June 15.

There is no official confirmation by the CBSE on this matter. According to the media reports, the CBSE will either award 8 bonus marks or will omit these questions. However, many experts and students have concerns in at least two other questions and they want the CBSE to review these questions as well.

Earlier, the Madras High Court had restrained the CBSE from releasing the results, as many students and parents had filed a petition in the court that there were differences in the difficulty level of the questions asked in NEET English/ Hindi question paper vis-a-vis other language question papers. On June 12, the Supreme Court removed the stay and asked the CBSE to release the result before June 26. Click here to read the complete story.
