The result of the NEET 2017 exam, which was scheduled to be declared on June 8, has been postponed. With Madras High Court (HC) stay order in place, the CBSE expressed its inability to declare the result on the scheduled date. As per the latest media reports, the Board have urged the Madras HC to lift the interim stay on NEET result so that it can announce the result. The next hearing of the case in Madras HC is on June 12 to evaluate difficulty of vernacular language NEET question papers as compared to English medium question paper. As things stand now, there is no possibility of NEET result until June 13.
As per the media reports, the CBSE, in its counter affidavit, said that it prepared different question papers as there was possibility of question paper leakage. The Court, however, rejected this argument. In the affidavit, the CBSE also said that the NEET question papers had been moderated by the experts and there was no possibility of questions in one paper being more difficult than the questions in the other paper. To determine whether or not there were differences in the difficulty level of the questions, the Madras HC has sought the English translation of vernacular language NEET question papers.
A delay in the announcement of NEET result has caused a lot of anxiety among the medical aspirants. The next hearing of the case in Madras HC and Gujarat HC is on June 12 and June 13 respectively.
In Tamil Nadu, a group of students and parents had filed a petition in Madras HC alleging that uniform question papers were not given to the candidates. The petitioners said that NEET question papers in English in Tamil had different sets of questions. They also claimed that there were differences in the difficulty level of the questions asked in English and Tamil question papers. On May 24, Madras HC had granted an interim stay on NEET result. A similar petition was also filed in Gujarat HC.
