PGIMER 2018 – The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh conducts PGIMER entrance exam for admission to 20 Master in Surgery (MS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) programmes. PGIMER 2018 is a national-level offline entrance test conducted twice a year in January and July. The application form of PGIMER for July session has been released on March 15, 2018. As mentioned above, candidates applying for PGIMER 2018 must have qualified MBBS and BDS. Check the important PGIMER eligibility criteria for both January and July sessions.
Educational qualification Applicants must have passed MBBS from a university/institute recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Internship Candidates must have completed or are likely to complete their one-year rotatory internship on or before December 31, 2017, for the January session. The date for completion of 12 months rotatory internship for July session is June 30, 2018.
Registration certificate An aspirant should possess a registration certificate issued by MCI or State Medical Council (SMC).
PGIMER application form for July session has been made available from March 15, 2018. Candidates can fill the application form of PGIMER till April 16, while fee can be paid until April 21, 2018. The application form procedure includes four steps - registration, issuance of login ID and password, academic details, uploading of required documents and payment of application fee.

General and OBC category applicants have to pay Rs. 1000 registration fees, whereas, SC and ST category candidates must deposit Rs. 800. PWD candidates are exempted from paying the application fee.
The admit card of PGIMER 2018 for July session will be made available in the third week of April 2018. To download PGIMER admit card, aspirants must enter application number and password. PGIMER admit card will display the name of candidate, registration number, examination centre details, date and time of exam etc. In order to download PGIMER 2018 admit card, candidates have to submit their application number and password.
PGIMER is an offline examination which includes 250 multiple choice questions (MCQs). The maximum time allotted for the completion of the entrance exam is three hours. The syllabus of PGIMER 2018 consists of all the subject areas studied in MBBS and BDS programmes. PGIMER entrance exam contains questions from Pre-clinical, Clinical and Para-clinical sciences as prescribed by conducting authority. The number of questions from some subjects are as follows: General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology.
PGIMER, Chandigarh does not publish any official sample paper of PGIMER. However, aspirants can practice from the PGIMER sample papers prepared by various experts and private coaching institutes both online and offline. PGIMER sample paper includes the topics which will be covered in entrance exam. Aspirants can also check the exam pattern and marking scheme of PGIMER 2018 while solving the sample papers.
PGIMER, Chandigarh does not publish the official answer key of PGIMER 2018. Thus, applicants can use the PGIMER answer key prepared by private institutes. The answer key includes the answers to the questions asked in the offline test. Aspirants can match their answers with the given solutions in the answer key. Using the PGIMER answer key, candidates can calculate their approximate scores secured in the examination.
The result of PGIMER 2018 for the July session will be announced on May 7, 2018. PGIMER result 2018 will be announced in online mode for candidates securing minimum qualifying marks in the entrance examination. To check PGIMER result, candidates have to enter the roll number and date of birth. Only candidates included in PGIMER result can attend the counselling session for admission to PG courses.
The cutoff of PGIMER 2018 is the minimum percentile which must be secured by candidates to qualify the test. General category candidates have to secure 55 percentile, whereas, SC, ST, OBC, OPH and rural area candidates must obtain 50 percentile in the entrance test.
The merit list of PGIMER 2018 will be available along with the result. An overall merit list will be prepared on the basis of the percentile secured by the candidates in entrance examination. Candidates from different categories securing the minimum qualifying percentile in PGIMER 2018 will qualify the test. A combined general merit list will also be prepared besides the category-wise merit list.
PGIMER will conduct offline counselling for the January session from December 15, 2017 while for the July session the counselling is likely to begin in June 2018. Usually, the counselling of PGIMER is conducted in three rounds. The number of candidates called for round 1 will be three times the number of seats available for each category. The seats will be allotted strictly on the basis of merit rank, preferences of courses as well as colleges and availability of seats. Any candidate who will be absent for at the time of counselling will not be considered for admission. Aspirants must carry the prescribed relevant documents for verification purpose.
